Celebrate the Homestead

A deer appears at the forest edge.

“Charming the Farm” is a celebration of the homestead that we live on.  It is a nostalgic vision encompassing simple living and a traditional lifestyle.  “Charming the Farm” incorporates traditional skills mixed with modern self-reliance methods and conveys them through pictures, blogs, vlogs, or videos.  This page is meant to take you to a place of beauty; a sort of romance with the farm and the forest.

Remembering The Traditional Farm

“Charming the Farm” is meant to be a dreamy place where bread is freshly baked, food is perfect and tasty, clothes are simple and handmade, and every garden is weed free.  This page is meant to take you to a fantasy (somewhat) fairytale land, but yet inspire you to try the traditional ways if you haven’t experienced them for yourself.

The Simple Lifestyle

“Charming the Farm” is meant to encourage a simple lifestyle.  In our fast-paced hectic world, it is the escape to a calm space.  “Charming the Farm” is also meant to give a peak into traditions and traditional ways; a tribute to our ancestors and their hard work.  A place to showcase the ways of the past and how items came to be.

The Homestead Ways

On this page expect to find things like slow cooking, sewing, crafts, canning, kitchen gardening, preserving food, beekeeping. honey processing, spinning, knitting, crocheting, arts and crafts, antiques relating to the homestead, old building methods, milling grains, baking, small herd or flock animal husbandry, aprons, baskets, cheese and butter making, wildflowers, herbs, and anything handmade.

Visually, think dusty muted colors, calico and gingham prints, ribbons, lace trim, and straw hats.  A time when ladies wore dresses and men wore button up shirts.  Time was set aside to drink homemade tea and nibble on fresh baked goods; or to take a walk and have a picnic on the ground in the open air.  Wild flowers were not seen as weeds, but beautiful decorations of nature.  Forest paths inspired wanderers and gave a peak into a wild world where animals lived freely and trees grew untamed and free.

Some of the current trending descriptions of this site would be cottagecore, fairycore, forestcore, countrycore, farmcore, mountaincore, nostalgic farm, or prairiecore. Many of these current trending topics are aesthetics that celebrate simplicity or simple living.

Current Celebrations

We are kicking off our celebration of vegetable gardening with vegetables and herbs in the color of purple.  Historically, the color purple represented royalty, luxury, and power.  Here’s to our gardens bringing us a bounty that makes us feel like royalty.  May we have the luxury of fresh food from our gardens; and may we have the power to rely on ourselves for our food production.

Click to see our current list of purple vegetable seeds you may want to grow in your garden.  We included a few herbs as well because they were just too pretty to not make the list.

Let’s Celebrate Bread Making!

Historically, bread was at the heart of every meal.  Nearly every culture has references to bread, and so many types, flavors, and shapes of bread have developed over the centuries.

We want to welcome you to check out our blog on bread making.
